Gord Pace and Diana MadsenCo-Owners
Shortly after moving to Maple Bay, Gord and Diana discovered the Genoa Bay Café and quickly fell in love with the amazing food and playful staff. Over the last 6 years they have become regular customers so they didn't hesitate when the opportunity to become involved with the café presented itself.
Diana moved to Cowichan Valley as a child, she is an avid sailor and has participated in many yacht races including a round trip race to Maui. Diana loves her new role in the café as a manager which has been quite the life style change. After spending 30 years in dentistry we will have to forgive her when she reminds our guests to floss after their meal.
Gord has been living in the Cowichan Valley since 1986 and has owned a number of successful businesses from Sooke to Campbell River. When he is not at work you will find him looking snazzy on one of our many local golf courses or enjoying life out on his boat.
Gord has been one of the owners of Genoa Bay Café for many years. He always meets and greets our guests with a warm and hearty welcome.
Gord has an amazing memory for names and occasions in our guests' lives, and he knows how to make each and every one feel special. Add in a quick wit, and a wealth of food & beverage knowledge, and you will know why so many of our loyal diners choose to return.
Born and raised in the Cowichan Valley, Gord has over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Previously, Gord worked as Bar Manager at the Galaxy Cabaret and Travelodge Silverbridge Inn. He has now been with Genoa Bay Café since 2007, as both a manager and owner.
Gord is very proud of the success of the restaurant, and considers Genoa Bay Café to be the Cowichan Valley's best 'on the water' dining experience!
Dustin CooknellExecutive Chef
Born and raised in Victoria, BC, Dustin started in the restaurant industry at the young age of 13. Working as an apprentice at the Oak Bay Marina, Dustin quickly learned his craft for fine dining from some of the top island chefs.
Dustin moved to the Cowichan Valley 5 years ago when he joined Genoa Bay Cafe as a First Cook. When the opportunity presented itself, Dustin moved up as Executive Chef and smoothly transitioned into the role with creativity, an eye for detail - all with a calm, relaxed manner.
Dustin's interests outside the restaurant include spending time on the Cowichan river with his family and dogs. To keep active he enjoys self defense, golf, and hockey and previously played lacrosse for Victoria-Esquimalt Lacrosse Association for 15 years.
Dustin works very hard to ensure guest satisfaction and we are privileged to have him as part of the Genoa Bay team.
